Some History about MCM

Motors City Motors was established in 2002 because we wanted to prove that an automobile could be propelled on a liquid fuel other than gasoline and diesel. At that time, we purchased a diesel Mercedes and converted it to run on used vegetable oil. We drove the prototype and the general public was fascinated. The drawback was that we had to filter the oil and it was messy. In 2002 the options for alternatives to gas/diesel were few. We met with a team promoting an experimental fuel source called E-85, a direct replacement for gasoline. We started using the fuel in a 2002 VW Jetta. We teamed up with Ohio State University and Ohio farmers to provide feedback on the actual use of this fuel in an automobile and what to expect.

We started working with electric cars in 2005. Our first try was a 1992 Geo Metro that we purchased on E-bay. We then moved on to a 1984 Fiero which was advertised on E-bay. From that one ad, we officially launched a serious new business, in addition to selling the car, we got calls from all over the United States. We were driving our All-Electric 1969 Austin Healey Sprite when there we only 3 Nissan Leaf prototypes in the United States. We took the "Austin" over to Nissan's North American headquarters in Farmington Hills, MI and some of our ideas are used in the All-Electric cars you see on the road today. We have been working with lithium since 2007.

In 2007, we teamed up with Enginer Plug-In kits as a consultant. Although they did not follow the majority of the advise we suggested about product quality, the sales tripled the 1st month that we worked with them. The second month, was a sales record for Enginer that they never matched again. The product was and is a great idea but the company had internal issues and finally closed. We were a dealer for Enginer for 4 years and during that time frame we sold Plug In kits in 19 countries. We even sold 10 modified kits as emergency power supplies to help stablize the Fukushima Nuclear power facility.

Since we are located in the Detroit Metro Area we have consulted or worked directly / indirectly for GM, Nissan, A123(Hymotion), Fisker, Plug-In Supply, Boulder Hybrid, and following Universities / Colleges: St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron, MI; Oakland University in Rochester, MI; Macomb County Community College in Macomb, MI; Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal in Montreal, Quebec. We have customers that are teaching or have teached at Ohio State, Harvard, MIT, University of Michigan, and New York University.
